Ben Crawford, who begins his run in the title role of Shrek the Musical on November 10, will participate in Broadway Classroom’s next “Putting It All Together” workshop on December 5. This new series from Broadway.com’s sister organization will be taught by actor/choreographers Melissa Rae Mahon and Sean McKnight at a rehearsal studio to be named. Carolyn Ockert-Haythe, assistant dance captain in Shrek the Musical, will also take part in the event.
In this innovative 3½-hour workshop, participants will learn a musical selection and choreography from Shrek the Musical; will participate in a “mock” audition vocal callback in which they will receive supportive, constructive criticism; and will have an opportunity to ask the performers about auditioning in New York City and what it’s like to be in a hit Broadway show. Also included are lunch at Mars 2112 restaurant and a ticket to see Shrek the Musical.
The interactive “Putting It All Together” workshop gives young artists the unique opportunity to study with current Broadway performers and theater pros who challenge participants to improve their skills and provide valuable feedback on their presentation. Broadway Classroom, a division of Theatre Direct International, develops programming in accordance with the National Standards for Arts Education and offers a variety of customizable workshops for any group.
Before joining Shrek the Musical, Crawford made his Broadway debut in the revival of Les Misérables where he understudied the roles of both Javert and Jean Valjean. His other stage credits include Oliver! at the MUNY, Oklahoma! at TOTS, Carousel, White Christmas, Guys and Dolls and Assassins.
The all-inclusive “Putting It All Together” workshop is $165 per person, and applications (available at www.broadwayclassroom.com) are due to Broadway Classroom by October 30.
